I’ve got all of these games as part of the PSIKYO Shooting Library Vol1 on the PS4, it’s pretty good value, you get 6 titles on the disk, Vol2 is also pretty good and contains the Gunbird series of games..
I am rather partial to old school shooters like this even though I’m really bad at them, I find the PSIKYO ones to be some of the more accessible bullet hell style shooters.
I definitely agree, mate. There’s not a load of wild shit flying around onscreen in terms of pickups etc, everything is well defined graphically and, in general, they’re extremely playable. I’m pretty sure I hadn’t come across them until I tried some of the challenges on Antstream. I will check out that PS4 game and see if I can find it cheap 🙂
I think both volumes for the PS4 are selling for somewhere around £25 each on Amazon.
Is Antstream the service that Retro Gamer Boy is involved with ?

Really like these games, I remember discovering them on MAME a few years ago.
I love how simple and straightforward they are, I can’t deal with shoot’em ups that have too many rules and things going on.
Oh, That definitely sounded like The Wombles theme.
There were some Japanese Wombles, Honourable Master Tokyo and another one that I can’t remember. I think there were a whole Japanese burrow of Wombles.
Yes, mate, they’re simple but very effective. I hadn’t heard of them before or, if I had, I’d forgotten about them.
You’re quite right, “rules” and loads of options are the bane of most games, see “almost all modern beat em ups”.
I prefer a fun, simple game that tests my skills and this series is very good on that front. I do like the addition of the bubo mechanic, lol, as that brings quite a lot to the game.
With a relatively small amount of options, there are still a lot of tactics that can be deployed.
They’re winners, for sure. My favourite is definitely part three, or 1999 as it’s called in Japan.
