Thanks again Sir for the recommendation! I found it’s on sale for switch at the moment (just over a fiver – switch games tend to cost more than any other format , even on sale)
I wasn’t sure I’d like it to be honest; I like shoot-em-ups and arcade driving games but this just didn’t look like my sort of thing however I briefly tried it, got killed after a bit, then realised I could replay the level I’d already completed meaning I could upgrade etc and then it sort of clicked with me (I know you mentioned the grinding, but I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer at the best of times).
Yes, mate, that’s the way! If a level is still replayable then you’ve not got everything you can from it. ALSO, I didn’t realise this when I first played through and I hammered through it BUT you can actually fail deliberately if you wanted to just stay grinding at a certain stage. As long as there’s a boss on the stage, you could just lose to the boss and therefore keep grinding indefinitely (a stage section isn’t closed until the boss is defeated).
But, yes, the grinding is where the rogue element comes into things, as everything you buy (car upgrades) stay with you after death, so you can gradually increase your abilities until you can beat the stage that’s stopping you. It’s great fun, mate, and when you unlock the ability to drive backwards and powerslide it really helps with a lot of the enemies, too.
I really think this is a great game, especially for (as far as I know) a one man project. Very polished and feels just right in terms of controls.
Thanks for the advice. This makes me think of Road Redemption, although that game is 3rd person and bikes only. If you haven’t checked it out yet I really recommend it, very addictive and fun Road Rash-clone.
I tried it a while back mate but I found it quite random, it’s okay but there was something missing. I think the level design needed a bit of work, but (unpopular viewpoint) I wasn’t a massive road rash fan, anyway. This, on the other hand, is very addictive and very tight in terms of design and gameplay. Today I 100%’d it and got every achievement :p Well worth it, and once you’ve finished the game you can go back and raise merry hell on the earlier levels with your fully upgraded car. I love games like this, top down driving games with violence will never get old for me :p Death Rally is another good one, although that’s much more of a race game BUT you can just upgrade enough to be able to kill everyone else on the track so you win by default :p Renegade ops was good, too. Anything where you’re driving around in a tiny car blowing stuff up is usually popular with me, especially if it’s clearly doffing it’s cap to games like spy hunter, jackal, speed rumbler etc.
Death Rally was HUGE when I was a kid, one of us was driving and the other one was shooting(like you suggested in the video), great memories! Wasn’t too fond of the remake on Steam though, can’t remember why. Maybe wasn’t in the mood, or something, gotta give it a second whirl whenever I buy a new computer.
Thank George, your recommendations are always worth checking out – I’m still enjoying Sega Rally from last year. Loved Spy Hunter in the arcades (actually got kicked out of an arcade for being underage when sneaking in to play that one!) so this purchase was a no brainer for me.
great stuff mate I really like it, I think it’s very well done. If people like that old school arcade car shooter vibe then this is, as you say, a no brainer. Excellent game and really well put together. Sega rally is class, too, a great game!
