Many thanks for the recommendation, George. My copy of this has just arrived from eBay, looking forward to giving it a go later. All the best mate and hope you’re well, thanks as always for keeping up all the great content. (PS. Richard’s in BITS!)
Nice video George! That was me with the comment about Rage Racer being the first with no in-game map. I guess it’s kind of handy if you don’t have a way to view behind you perhaps, but ‘Revolution’ included the rear view mirror, and from RRV onwards you had a button that let you see behind you anyway, so an in-game map is kind of redundant by this point.
While I didn’t particularly care for the re-coloured post processing effects on Rage Racer, I find them more appealing in this one! It’s nice to have the option either way. Hopefully PCSX2 gets to a point where those visual bugs can be ironed out too. I still have the original disks so I’ll stick to the original hardware, but you’ll see no silly elitism here! Emulation is getting incredibly impressive these days. Being able to conveniently play PS3 games (in more stable framerates and such) is an incredibly nice option. No hate for emulation whatsoever.
I think between coming off RR4 and jumping to a new console put my expectations through the roof ended up disappointing me initially, but thanks to this video I’ll give it another spin this weekend I think. I vividly recall not liking the announcer haha! Either way, you can’t go wrong, especially for a launch title!
Beat me to it Rush – it was indeed you that made the comment about the change to the in game map 😉 as George points out, I think most people didn’t use it or realise it was there anyways. The enjoyment of the RR games is on finding your own rhythm and learning each curve and straight to perfection and the minimap didn’t really help with this. Definitely agree that RRV is worth your time today and holds up well! 😊
Nice playthrough George – Great game and aged really well in my view. I’d say this is probably second favourite PS2 game after the incredible Gradius V 😊👌

Ah, the third-best entry in the franchise, according to myself, anyway. It was also the first game I ever played on my PS2, and it was one of a handful of games I played regularly on the PS2 until the PS3 launched and I had RR7 to play.
it’s a great game mate i think it’s also aged really well too albeit playing in “original” resolution is pretty grim nowadays but upscaling it with emulation works a treat ! hopefully someday the remaining graphical bugs will be resolved in the emulator (the weird “snow” on some stuff and the lens flare/lighting) and we can have a perfect version of the game.
