Love you chats with Simon. The Vega+ mess was really bad and should never be forgotten. However some people took it to the extremes (on both sides). I have on the empty shells, I am I am sure with some work you could add a screen and a Pi zero to make it work.
The take out from the whole thing was people who are academics are completely unsuitable for running a business to make a retro handheld. The tragic thing was Mr Levy was recommended by Sir Clive himself.
You can be smart but not be any good at delivering a decent product. Sinclair wasn’t that’s for sure, I’m not dissing the speccy but their products were flimsy and unreliable. As Nigel Searle said when interviewed, Clive would see a prototype and then get it put into production. They never went to the stage of turning the prototype into the product which often requires more engineering to get things reliable and able to be built easily. In the case of the black watch it shipped without any shielding and fitting it was difficult when the problem arose.
I won’t say anything more about DL and his sexbots urgh.
they were not academics, levy was a ligger and a hanger on to people much smarter than himself. he’s “ok” at chess and was “friends” with clive sinclair. those are his credentials. the rest, hm, even less capable.
Well I’ve read what David Levy has done and it’s mostly chess and chess events. I’m not seeing anything related to product design, engineering, product management, all the skills you need when releasing a piece of hardware.

This must be the video featuring Dazz, as mentioned by Simon:
It’s riveting.

Great podcast mate. So glad I found your site and you are still making videos.
Glad to hear that mate. The content you make is so unique especially compared to a lot of the larger youtube gaming channels. I wish you the best with your health.

You both brought up the Bob Armour interview in his new A8 book.
Having had a read of it, i found it beyond bizzare.
The author starts by explaining Bob will be talking about his A8 Computer work, yet the discussion switches to his work on the 7800 console, which used it’s own custom hardware, unlike say the 5200 and XEGS.
Why wasn’t Bob asked about his work on A8 Basil The Great Mouse Detective?
A8 Gauntlet?
Using the A8 hardware to help produce the 8-bit conversions of Gauntlet for Gremlin?
It reads like a massive missed opportunity to get insights into actual A8 commercial games development and instead comes across as a generic Atari interview.
Good stuff but to be honest I tuned out once you and Simon started talking about games. I much prefer it when you two plumb the depths of the turd mine known as the British retrogaming scene.
well we didn’t talk about games for long really, that was just on the end and yes i think we both know that people don’t tune in to hear me talk about how great dark souls is or words of a similar ilk. they want the DRAMA which is basically what everyone wants who comes here lol, i have a feeling that the “gaming” videos just get in the way for most of my viewers !
Great stuff George – really enjoyed that and will look forward to your next one. Your podcast also gave me some well needed respite from Vampire Survivors – it canβt be healthy to see groups of bats in your sleep! ππ

To be fair, the gentleman in question is an International Master of Chess and a world-renowned authority in the field of teledildonics.

So DL *isn’t* an expert on sex with robots, then? I’m disappointed tbh.
not at all mate he just seems to be obsessed with the concept of it !

Haha, how dare they. I had this on in the background while tinkering with things (nothing retro, a 3D printer kit build).
good stuff mate that’s mainly what these ramblings are designed for. woe betide those who give their undivided attention to such piffle :p
