I searched for Barcadia on Youtube and there’s other people using the name, I wonder if it’s a trademark?

Check out this screenshot from a 5 year old Dan Wood video from a panel at some event. I heard Slopes say he likes to expose kickstarter scams etc, and look who he’s sitting next to!!!

That looks to me like retro revival in Walsall, 2018, maybe? Retro Hour held the talks over that weekend. The panels there, save for Jon Romero’s talk on Doom, were just circle jerks of the highest order. All friends in the panel, all friends in the audience.

i think that’s what’s wrong with most of these events, to be honest. they just pick the people with the most subscribers (apart from trista bytes who seems to be everywhere yet apparently no-one watches her content, what there is of it) and it’s always the same boring people for the most part especially the circle jerk. a panel of wacky arseholes all cracking “jokes” and playing out their roles, it’s like a dungeons and dragons party who would get killed in the first encounter as the DM would find them too insufferable to deal with. not sure how this could change really. the problem is that these people are involved in interactive media wherein the audience CAN “get to them” via comments sections, twitter, facebook etc. that’s not the case with actual stars, for the most part, so at a comic con you’ll pay to get your 15 seconds with a celebrity, get a photo etc. that’s your only chance to have access to them when the walls aren’t up but then you have people like nostalgia nerd online 24/7 basically begging for your money, attention, ideas, interactions etc. it’s a different thing. there’s nothing inaccessible about these people, quite the opposite. someone like john romero is a good example as to a decent panel guest, as he’s not ubiquitous online and has actually done something of merit even if we’ve all heard the story a fair few times. these youtubers have nothing to back up their supposed “fame” save for the fact that a lot of retards watch them transiently online. that’s it. a bunch of numbers denote the fact that they’re “famous”. by this token, retro revival and play expo etc should just be full of cats or hasbullah as they are the most popular things online 😮

“i like to expose scams as long as they’re not presided over by my mates or someone i’m sucking up to”

see: Barcadia
see: Intellivision Amico

if you’re going to do something you can’t be selective with your outrage just because your mates are involved or you stand to benefit by leaving it alone. a scam is a scam. grifting is grifting.

A question… Why didn’t Peter hold off on launching his campaign until OLL? Seems to me like he’s one of the big stars there, for some reason. Would have been an excellent platform to boost Barcadia from. And yet, the whole fundraising window was opened and closed a good clear margin before that. Is he really so short sighted as to miss a marketing boon such as that? Or has he other reasons for keeping the two separated?

My personal opinion is they launched it too late as it is. They had already keys to the building and had started work in fixing it up. There would have been more credibility had they have asked for the money before they did that, if the Kickstarter failed then they would have an idea that people weren’t all that interested in the idea.

It would have also have been better to state what the extra cash would deliver. Maybe more machines, better decor etc… It seems like in reality the money was being used to avoid the campaign owners needing to take any risk. People used to remortgage their homes and put everything on the line to start a business but these days you can just try a crowd funding campaign.

well said mate, there’s zero risk here they just fancied a pissabout with other peoples money. shame, really, as it’s basically taken yet another massive shit on the credibility of “name” uk youtubers to the point where there’s precious little left, if anything, bar the relentless desire to grift beyond reason.

I’m sure he’ll still get in some promotion. He’ll probably sell some £175 gift cards which provide 10% off prices that are yet to be determined during opening hours that are yet to be determined.

They had a rates exemption on the property that started 28th October 2022. Normally you get a 3 month exemption but it can be extended to 6. By the time they get the Kickstarter money through and pay back any “alleged self payments”, as well as OLL then you will be towards end of April. Just seemed a nice fit.

Just creating a kitchen up to the job of serving food to the public is an undertaking. Unless fries are about all they’re doing. Are loaded fries the alternative to loading them up yourself from a tape deck?

Maybe NN should have offered that as a high tier reward. You just know he has simps who’d pay extra for one of his freshly used vegetables.

Watched episode 5 of South Park last night (episode 5 of the current series) and was struck by how close the plot was to Barcadia tale.

Cartman decides he should get an income but doesn’t want to work. He decides to open a hotdog shop in a historical site but needs people to invest.

So a bespoke deal that was not offered to Kickstarter backers – but just to one person (confirming the activity people suspected).

No actual business plan: no idea of opening hours, no predicted opening date (so when the main running costs will start), no predictions of required turnover/footfall.

What does that even mean? Was it Kickstarter trying to get some cash and sending out an offer or was it the campaign owners offering something?
