I didn’t know it got an arcade release. I have it for my Dreamcast and, like yourself, I prefer the arcade-style racers (Ridge Racer is probably one of my favourites along with the Burnout series), this does look nice but I found it to be too ‘realistic’ and I don’t think it feels like it would convert well to arcade. Maybe they changed play elements for the Naomi version to make to try to make it more of a coin guzzler although, thinking about it, Hard Drivin’ was aimed more at realism than arcade (and as a result, not much fun) so maybe they didn’t.
Yep agree – not your usual Sega arcade racer this one – it’s is more like a sim in many ways. Never seen the arcade version, but had it on the DC – it’s very difficult and not as enjoyable as driving the outrun Ferrari that’s for sure! 😊
no mate not at all, it seems a very weird choice for an arcade game. most arcade games don’t have realism as their primary focus, and this seems very “dry” and not particularly exhilarating. another cast off from play expo, presumably. “Can we have outrun ?” “no”. Oddly enough there’s a newspaper article about barcadia that states they WOULD have outrun, so clearly this was chosen as 2nd best (if that !)
As you’ve said George – I can’t imagine expo are going to offer these clowns their best wares, and thats also assuming that the cabs they are sending to Barcadia are in a ‘working’ state beforehand. I hope NN next photo makes him look more convincing as an arcade repairer as he did a decorator! (Cue demented selfie pose holding a spanner or something) 😊
I had this with a wheel and peddles and back in the day when Toys R Us were flogging off all things Dreamcast, it is very hard. I do remember it looking really nice with the VGA cable. It no Sega GT or MSR both of which are so much more fun, I don’t even know if it would work on an emulator but I recon the best driving game on the Dreamcast was Gran Turismo with the Bleem! disc.
yes mate it looks nice but it’s really not much fun, an attempt at “serious” racing from a company with a pedigree for fun, fast, colourful arcade racers. a failed attempt, i’d say, albeit valiant.
I must be one of the lucky c#nts, as I played this many a time in the arcades on the deluxe 3 screen version.
I say “played”, but in reality it was the hardest driving game Ive ever came across, and Ive played a few – times to beat to continue were hysterically impossible.
yes mate it strikes me as a very difficult game and, ultimately, not a very fun one. as i’ve stated, though, i much prefer arcade racers or at least a racing game where you’re not punished for bumping other vehicles so this wasn’t really made for me. as a realistic racer, it’s probably good but it’s just not something i’m interested in sinking any time into. i’m currently playing wreckfest (see recent video on it) and that’s as close to a realistic driving model as i like to get really !

well if you remember some of the funds have apparently been earmarked to refurbish the machines :-/

Anyway, keep up the good work George.
