None of these YT ‘celbs’ will want to mix with the great unwashed, they just want their likes, comments and Patreon support.

Witnessed something very similar at a Retro event many years ago and nothing has changed in all the years since.

Stuart is trying to distance himself from videogaming now? 🤔

Not the brightest of moves offering a signed copy of one of his dreadful, guest writer written books as a perk for the crowd funder then 🤔

Peter’s current missus does have some actual business experience behind her and I can appreciate Europe is the biggest board game sector, the sector as a whole is expanding year in, year out..

Boardgame cafe venues are a thing in the USA, but if numbers are to be believed, her attempt has been running at a huge loss for a number of years.

They can’t seriously think this venue will be the money spinner, profits from it can be used to pay off debts on her venue.

This Vegan Retro Arcade itself will struggle to even break even.

Peter should decide exactly what it is, he sees himself as.

A YT Celb? if so, stop throwing tantrums when views decline and do wahhh i am leaving YT videos..

A writer? a couple of throw away titles a writer doth not make..

Or a business owner.

Pick one, invest time and his own resources in it.

Don’t go expecting others to fund your silly buggers life choices.

Peter made it big because his time capsule video went viral. He sought to capitalise on that. He was also director of that dodgy loan company at the time, so it tracks.
Ashens has something like a million subs on YT and can attract the likes of Robert llywellyn and warwick Davis to appear in his low budget films. Pete needs ashens’ star power. Especially since his last few videos on YT have been about scolding his subscribers for not rushing to watch every video he puts out. He’s having a tantrum and a mid life crisis all at once and trying to monetise it as he always does. I feel sorry for any of the poor saps who think he’s going to be their friend or even give them a second glance for funding this. I encountered him at the Cambridge computer museum. He sashayed in, spoke only to his “famous” friends while normie fans clamoured to impress him, whom he ignored. He breezed out within an hour. He thinks he’s royalty and needs to be brought down several pegs.

Ashen’s (Ashens’s?) videos were never really all that anyway. Poverty porn – a rich yuppie influencer sneering at Poundland toys for about 300 videos, it’s like we get it mate please do something else.

How do I become one of these YouTubers who gets loads of stuff “donated” to them by “fans” of the channel? These morons are gifting free money to them!

You could start by talking about obscure retro games like Super Mario Bros and SF II and how expensive they are to buy now. Oh, and how Richard is still in bits.

I’m genuinely stunned at Ashens’ reaction in that Twitch video. He completely dismisses any involvement with the cafe whatsoever. Why the fuck was he included in the promotional video then?! “Cos he’s a mate”. I’ve got lots of mates who are trying new entertainment ventures and whatnot and I don’t just go on and claim to be a part of it, unless they either pay me to do so or I’m actually involved!!!

As I told you, I know someone he does personally and I’m very disappointed with this and will be saying something. I loved some of Ashens’ old videos too and would have even thanked him for entertaining me in person, buying him a pint (of whatever he drinks. He did say he doesn’t drink alcohol) and maybe have a chin wag about the silly action figures he’s bought or something but his attitude here is just bollocks and frankly, Nostalgia Nerd should be pissed off by the way he just completely dismissed something that he was promoted as being all in with.

These people are on a completely fucking other planet and thank you, George for shedding some light on all this, ever since the Lady Dickhead fiasco. The only British gamer YouTube videos I watch now are by a fella called Sharopolis who at least entertains by simplifying technical aspects of old machines (please don’t expose him next! But nothing would shock me now).

Anyway, I hope they get fuck all for this for clearly trying to wreck another business.

There’s a good few YT channels that are good and run by good people. Sharoplis is one i watch too but if your looking for more check out.
Retrobreak – more modern system from the early 00s and Game Boy
TJ Ferreira nutty guy from the US loves his Atari, Sam coupe, speccy and ZX next and more US based computers
Game sack – i think everyone knows this guy
PatmanQC – goes into the history or arcade games and any home based ports
Sega lord X
Paul Jenkinson – Speccy
Retro bird – US based off the wall guy
Thats just a few off the top of my head but there’s defiantly more channels out there other than the shit pot dwellers.

I’m sure there is and cheers for that.

I don’t even mind reading about stuff I mostly know about if it’s presented in an entertaining way but as George says, so much of it is such low hanging fruit.

What Twitch video was this? I have to see. Given Ashen’s lack of enthusiasm in NN’s video I am inclined to believe that all is not well between those two.

She’s a bit of a downgrade from Octavius. Hopefully for Pete’s sake she’s far lower maintenance.

From what I can see Sam has run a cafe for about eighteen months to two years. Not exactly a long period.
Peter has never run a business.
He had a short relationship with a young woman who has suffered mental health issues.
There is a better arcade just down the road they can’t compete with.
It’s basically a vegan bar.
Rats are already looking at deserting the ship. Probably starting to get their life jackets on as we speak.

Anything I missed?

So this was done in January of this year, raised a tidy 5,000 knicker, and is back on the Kickstarter trying to fund an entirely new venture? Whatever happened to grafting to earn your own way, true entrepreneurship? These people are like vultures always asking for a handout. Get in the sea.

Great material George. Very informative and always entertaining.

I did however have myself pondering a question whilst I watched this video – these behaviours we’re witnessing from certain members of the UK retro gaming community, how much of it is YouTube’s fault?

I really enjoyed NN’s early content, and RMCs early videos as they seemed genuinely passionate about the topics, and keen to share their knowledge with others. They certainly weren’t in it for the fame and money, from what I could tell anyway.

But they did become popular, and they did make money from YT. So much so that they decided to make a living from it. And why wouldn’t you? Make a living out of something you really enjoy… that’s a dream job for most!

But as you highlighted, the subscriber base isn’t growing significantly, there’s more competition from newcomers, and the YT commercial mechanism isn’t quite as lucrative as it once was.

So what do you do? Thank the universe for a good innings, state it was fun whilst it lasted and move on to something more traditional employment wise?
Or do you keep living the dream? …at all costs?

I guess I’m saying I feel sorry for some of the YT retro gaming community. They’ve become a commodity by stealth and have to admit that they’re now totally disposable. Some have accepted this and are moving on, whilst some simply won’t accept it and are hanging on at the expense of integrity and reputation.

I’m rambling now but I guess the point I wanted to make is that YT must harbour some of the blame for the greedy monsters they’ve created. That said, there have been many opportunities for the YouTubers to jump off the train before they turned into monsters.

They all start with the best intentions for the most part but once they make it their day job incomes the greed and fear of losing the cash flow that’s where the gate keeping, back stabbing and bullying comes in. RMC is no different he started off ok until the cash rolled in from patron and he could make it his day job after while he became chief gatekeeper you just have to read the leaks of that secret discord server they where all in to see it. Spend some time on his discord server and watch how it all works with his little group of pilot fish, I spent some time on Neils server watching them all blow smoke up each others arses and dance to Neil’s tunes and realised how it all worked watching them bully people whilst his admin guy watched it happen and did nothing it was like watching playground politics but with supposedly grown men.

One other suggestion for your fab site George – an edit function for user comments! The predictive text on my phone is terrible and at worst makes me look like an illiterate BASTARD! (Like the post above!) 😂😊😉

How transparent will they be with the funds if they reach their goal. I’d expect to be able to track every penny in and every penny out for that kind of investment and for the full length of the business. If he can’t own up to being in a relationship with his business partner what hope do the backers have of transparency.

Absolutely fucking none.

These crowdfunded schemes don’t usually end with all the money going where it’s ment to go.

Bloody ‘ell George, that was an incredible deconstruction. If this with Peter and the ‘other woman’ is accurate then it should ABSOLUTELY be disclosed. Normally such things should be kept private and personal because it’s no one else’s business who you’re dating – but in this case, figuratively AND literally, it IS everyone’s business. You’re asking people to fund YOUR business. If there’s any sense of trying to obfuscate this fact, it only brings into question how many other things he’s conveniently hiding or selectively chosing to not share. The whole thing stinks.

Ashens endorsement-but-not-really-that-involved situation is bizarre as well. It beggars belief how they expect this to get anywhere. I hadn’t even considered the state of the economy, cost of electricity and such. During the pandemic how many WELL ESTABLISHED pubs and eateries had to shut down? How many WELL ESTABLISHED venues are still struggling to keep their doors open? Shit, how many ordinary people are struggling just to keep the lights and heating on in their own home? Trying this now, of all times, is suicidal at best and grossly negligent and arrogant at worst.

I fear this is only the beginning of this saga.

Couldn’t agree more. Something I forgot to add on my original comment was how I really like this “plastic gamers” name. It’s very apt and sums many of these people up to a tee. Just disposable talking heads (often) reading things other people wrote in front of a wall of games behind them. These people rarely add anything insightful or interesting. The term “plastic gamers” is the most appropriate label as, like plastic, gets recycled over and over again. I’m morbidly curious where this all goes. It’ll be an interesting month or two for sure.

Damn right George, but let’s not forget what it is that these turd burglars as supposed to be doing in the first place – ie the point is it all – ‘entertainment’ (used very loosely). I’m baffled who or why watches this stuff as even as a long term gamer / fan of games, I find most of the content crippling dull. Who watchers this stuff exactly? I do wonder.

Before I knew anything at all about the wotsits antics over the years (mainly through the vids on your channel), again I didn’t quite get it. His videos are boring, ill informed and if you’re lucky you get the odd dogshit hardware review, filmed on wotsits dirty settee with his moggie roaming around. While not quite in the same league if cuntery, I’ve found nostalgia nerds content equally depressing. Your right George – the whole retro YouTube scene on the whole is as bizarre as it is rotten and incestuous
