This has a massive sprite of Hitler to defeat at the end. Odd ending, really bizarre

Nice. Never seen the arcade version but I used to play it on the ST back in the day – that version is crap. Half the speed and you can only fire one shot at a time with grenades / tank shells.
arcade version is really good mate i would say it’s a pretty fair game for an arcade title, you can get quite far on 10p and there’s not much “cheap” about it especially if you know the waves. there ARE some random incursions but a lot of the patterns remain the same through each playthrough. worth a go on mame certainly mate and check my comment here for control settings to map buttons as the twistable sticks.

Loved this is arcade when I was little!!
Sweet, I got a fresh download of MAME a while ago but messing around with the settings is almost as annoying as fiddling about with my android emulation thing.
yes mate i got it sorted after a bit. the main issue was that i was trying to do it using the analog stick but the original stick was just a positional shifter and is pretty much impossible to get “right” using analog as it’s looking for incremental movements not jumps around and “revert to centre” information, so it’s much better to just map it to two buttons. i need to do a play of “forgotten worlds” too as i’ve not played that in ages and used to regularly finish that on the zx spectrum but i think the arcade of that had something similar in terms of choosing which way you were facing.
I got this knock off Pandora stick thing years ago, hell of a good time to be had. gotta see if that works with mame properly. There’s something about using a proper gated stick and bashy buttons.
lot of snobbery about the slightly dodgy emulation on those things but its about as close as you can get without spending a load of cash…and to be fair I can think of a lot better things to be spunking any spare cash on.
rambling now, point is….Yes, nice to play the games again at all especially without the gypsy hard settings on them like at the fair.
yes mate i like that you can access the dip switches if needs be to make the games easier, or to see what those travelling swinebastards were setting them to back in the day ! i’m not really snobby about emulation mate i’ve been using mame for 20 years or so there’s no room for snobbery there it used to be very much more flaky and if the game works to a playable state then fair play ! i just never bought a pandora box as i’ve always had pc systems that can emulate fine and i can just build joysticks if i need them i still have loads of buttons and stuff just laying around but i agree 100% it’s much better to play most of these games with the controls they were intended for !
To set this up to play by using buttons to turn the player character, open the MAME ingame menu by pressing TAB when the game is running, then go to “Analog controls” and make the settings as follows:
Positional digital speed = 0
Positional reverse = Off
Positional sensitivity = 60
(you can make these settings the same for player 2, also, by changing the three settings below to the same)
Then go into the “Input (this machine)” menu and change the following controls
Positional Analog Dec
Positional Analog Inc
to whichever buttons you like. I usually play on a ps4 or xbox pad so I tend to use the bumper buttons. Change these settings for player 2, also, if you have any friends.
